The McLaren Speed tail is the real proof of what a machine could be for those who believe in true limits and claims “to use art & science as one” — this car has it all, and if anything at least we know how good it will look on roads. The hyper-GT is classified as a part of the manufacturer’s Ultimate Series and represents only its second street-legal car capable of delivering maximum luxury performance. ### Design and Aerodynamics It says that the McLaren Spee dtail looks fast, full stop. This, in addition to some other swoopy bits makes it look windswept even when it’s parked. The teardrop form of the Speed tail has been honed within a millimeter to be as aerodynamically efficient and streamlined, with every detail possible echoing that philosophy from its wheel covers aping F1 racers’ (only there is no rear wing) back well reducing drag at beyond 250mph. An additional consequence of the long tail is that one design element in front will differ to dramatically reduce drag reminiscent a lot like Concorde. Aerodynamics also drove design, contributing to the dramatic taper at back end of the car. Traditional side mirrors have also been ditched in favor of retractable, digital rear-view cameras that again not only help cut drag but contribute to an even cleaner looking profile. The Speedtail seems to rely heavily on active aerodynamics, for extremely high-performance. The ailerons dynamically protrude to counteract lift while also adjusting their angle as needed, subtly tuning maximum downforce levels for better high-speed stability. It’s this level of aerodynamic optimization that helps the Speed tail achieve its remarkable top speed with such efficiency. Powertrain and Performance The powertrain of the McLaren Speed tail centers on a 4.0-liter twin-turbocharged V8 with an electric motor Combined, they churn out an astonishing figure rated at 1,055 horsepower and up to a whopping maximum torque of 848 lb-ft The Speed tail is said to be capable of 250 mph flat out, and I mean “flat” in the quite literal sense—because that’s just what it took for this thing to stand as McLaren’s fastest offering yet! For instance, the Speed tail can also hit 186 mph from a standstill in just 12.8 seconds. All of this allows it to sprint from 0-186 mph in just a time of 12.8 seconds, one the fastest acceleration times in the world thanks to its incredible power-to-weight ratio and hybrid technology. In addition to the power, there’s an electric motor at each axle providing all-wheel drive and instantaneous torque from a standstill for maximum acceleration no matter how fast you are. It’s a critical element of the car’s hybrid system, and it comes with advanced cooling and thermal management systems. That way, the Speed tail is always operating at its full potential — be it on the road or track. ### Interior and Technology The interior of the McLaren Speedtail reflects its distinctive exterior styling. The biggest charm is by far it’s central driving position — an homage to the iconic McLaren F1. In the middle of that up front, above and just a bit sunken in below two seats side by side as well. Not much else on the road feels quite the same in terms of visibility and sensation through that car. Meanwhile, front and enlightened center of the dash is a triplet von three illuminated HD displays that bring all information prone to be relevant in an active driving. Naturally, the car uses exotic materials like carbon fiber and leather no matter what kind of pack it comes with in order to provide a lavish but functional environment. Additionally, the electrochromic glass roof in the Speed tail can darken with a simple press of a button and aid to adjusting how much light enters the cabin. Helping to make such a hardcore supercar as this is about as comfortable and practical for all but its top speed run, which requires you drive in the passenger’s knee-crushing position (more on that later). Exclusive and Production Closure Befitting of that, McLaren production-capped the Speed tail at only 106 units in a deliberate nod to the number made of its predecessor and name inspiration–the F1 series. Naturally, every Speed tail is an individually configured vehicle with customers empowered to express their own unique taste; using one of the most extensive personalisation choices offered in any McLaren. ### Conclusion The McLaren Speed tail isn’t just a hyper car; it’s an engineering and design tour de force, one that resets the bar for top-tier automotive performance as we’ve come to know it. In addition to being the fastest McLaren ever, it will also be the most luxurious, with top tier materials and detailing inside drawn from three colorways that were inspired by high value clients.
